With the news that Bombardier will cut 7,000 jobs worldwide over the next two years, the spotlight has turned on the federal government and whether it will provide the Montreal-based plane and train maker with more money.
Dave Moloney, Adjunct Research Professor and Fellow with the Lawrence Centre at Ivey, says a decision of this magnitude could take months. Moloney was the former assistant deputy minister for Industry Canada in 2008. He worked on the Bombardier file when Ottawa gave $350 million in loans to develop the company's C Series.
Government officials, Moloney said, will look into such factors as whether there is a market for the C Series, who else is in the market, and is Bombardier capable of the construction phase.
Moloney spoke with various media outlets on whether the Canadian government should provide further relief for Bombardier moving forward.
