Accessibility – Ivey Business School Foundation

Ivey Business School Foundation (the “Foundation”) is committed to achieving barrier free accessibility for persons with disabilities studying, visiting and working at the Foundation. What follows is the Foundation’s Accessible Goods and Services Plan which includes instructions for making inquiries and providing feedback.

Ivey Business School Foundation- Accessible Goods & Services Plan

This Plan is in accordance with the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service, Ont. Reg. 429/07, developed under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

Our Commitment

Ivey Business School Foundation “Foundation” is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner. We will do so by removing and preventing barriers to accessibility and meeting our accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Ontario’s accessibility laws.

The Foundation is committed to meeting its current and ongoing obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code respecting non-discrimination.

The Foundation understands that obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and its accessibility standards do not substitute or limit its obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code or obligations to people with disabilities under any other law.

The Foundation is committed to excellence in serving and providing goods, services or facilities to all customers including people with disabilities.

Policies, Practices and Procedures

As part of this commitment, the Foundation will integrate the provision of goods and services to persons with disabilities into its policies, practices and procedures, unless an alternative, separate measure is necessary to enable persons with disabilities to obtain, use and benefit from the provided goods and services.

Without limiting the requirements or expectation for accessibility, specific consideration shall be given to the following:

Assistive Devices

The Foundation welcomes people with disabilities to use their personal assistive devices when accessing our goods, services, or facilities.

Communication

The Foundation encourages open communication with people with disabilities in order to ensure that its goods and services are accessible. We will work with the person with disabilities to determine what method of communication works for them.

Service Animals

The Foundation welcomes people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal onto the parts of our premises that are open to the public and commits to finding alternatives to the use of service animals if the service is provided in a location in which animals are prohibited by law (e.g. health or safety reasons).

If service animals are prohibited by another law, we will do the following to ensure people with disabilities can access our goods, services, or facilities:

  • explain why the animal is excluded
  • discuss with the person another way of providing goods, services, or facilities

Support Persons

The Foundation welcomes people with disabilities who are accompanied by a support person. Any person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person will be allowed to enter the Foundation’s premises with their support person. At no time will a person with a disability who is accompanied by a support person be prevented from having access to their support person, provided that the interaction between the person and their support person does not compromise academic integrity by removing or otherwise undermining essential requirements of courses or academic programs.

Temporary Disruptions to Service

The Foundation will provide notice in the event of a planned or unexpected disruption in the facilities or services usually used by people with disabilities to access the Foundation’s goods and services.

A notice regarding a temporary disruption will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated duration, and a description of alternative facilities or services, if available. The notice will be placed in relevant conspicuous locations on our premises and, when appropriate, shall be emailed to the Ivey Community.

Training

The Foundation will provide training about accessible goods and services to faculty and staff members, contractors, volunteers, and others who interact with members of the public who wish to obtain, use, or benefit from goods and services provided by the Foundation. Members of the public include, but are not limited to, students, alumni, retirees, visitors, and Staff Members of the Foundation when acting in the role of a student, alumnus, visitor, etc. Training will also be provided to every person involved in the development of policies, practices, and procedures regarding the provision of accessible goods and services.

Training will occur on an ongoing basis and whenever changes are made to relevant policies, practices, and procedures. Training will be provided to each person as soon as practicable after they are assigned applicable duties.

Training will include a review of the purposes of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, the requirements of the Customer Service standard, and information about the following matters:

  • How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities.
  • The Foundation’s policies, practices and procedures relating to the provision of goods and services to persons with disabilities.
  • How to interact with persons with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person.
  • How to use equipment or devices available at the Foundation that may help with the provision of goods or services to a person with a disability.
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty accessing the Foundation’s goods and services.

The Foundation will keep records of the training provided, including dates on which training is provided and the number of individuals to whom it is provided.

Employment

We notify staff members, job applicants and the public that accommodations can be made during recruitment and hiring. We notify job applicants when they are individually selected to participate in an assessment or selection process that accommodations are available upon request. We consult with the applicants and provide or arrange suitable accommodation.

We notify successful applicants of policies for accommodating Staff Members with disabilities when making offers of employment.

We notify staff members that supports are available for those with disabilities as soon as practicable after they begin their employment. We will consult with staff members when arranging for the provision of suitable accommodation in a manner that takes into account the accessibility needs due to disability. We will consult with the person making the request in determining the suitability of an accessible format or communication supports specifically for:

  1. a) information that is needed in order to perform the Staff Member’s job; and
  2. b) information that is generally available to Staff Members in the workplace

Where needed, we will also provide customized emergency information to help a Staff Member with a disability during an emergency. With the Staff Member’s consent, we will provide workplace emergency information to a designated person who is providing assistance to that Staff Member during an emergency. We will provide the information as soon as practicable after we become aware of the need for accommodation due to the Staff Member’s disability. We will review the individualized workplace emergency response information:

  1. a) When the Staff Member moves to a different location in the organization.
  2. b) When the Staff Member’s overall accommodations needs or plans are reviewed; and
  3. c) When the Staff Member reviews its general emergency response policies.

We have a written process to develop individual accommodation plans for Staff Members.

We have a written process for Staff Members who have been absent from work due to a disability and require disability-related accommodations in order to return to work.

Our performance management, career development and redeployment processes take into account the accessibility needs of all Staff Members.
