Associate Professor, Operations Management & Sustainability
Gal Raz is an associate professor of Operations Management and Sustainability and a fellow at the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management at Ivey. He received his Ph.D. in business and a master's degree focusing on public policy from Stanford University. His research centres on supply-chain management and sustainable operations, with a special focus on pricing, remanufacturing, innovation and government environmental regulations. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as POM, Management Science, and Decision Sciences and top business magazines such as Strategy and Business, the Globe and Mail, and the Washington Post. The Impact of the Raz’s research extends to multiple cases and articles in leading business magazines, and over 30 media interviews and news stories. He serves on the editorial board of POM and as a referee for Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (M&SOM).
Dr. Raz has more than 20 years of experience teaching operations, SCM, sustainability and innovation at Undergraduate, MBA and EE programs, at leading business schools such as Ivey, Darden, Kellogg, Technion, and AGSM. During the last two decades he developed many courses and almost 20 cases that sold over 75,000 copies worldwide. His course materials won several awards with the “Eastman Tritan” case winning the 2013 INFORMS case competition, and his sustainability materials and courses helping Darden win the Sustainability Curriculum Page Award in 2012. Based on his work, he was invited to give multiple tutorials on teaching OPS and SCM at both POMs and INFORMS. Dr. Raz also leads workshops for faculty members around the world on teaching the case method and writing with cases.
Throughout his career, Dr. Raz was involved in numerous industry projects and leadership roles. He worked with many companies on topics related to supply chain management, innovation and sustainable operations in Australia, China, India, the United States, Canada, and Israel. He also held multiple leadership and board roles in both academia and professional organizations. Recently he served as Ivey's Associate Dean of Research and as part of his role, he led the research strategy at Ivey and chaired the Critical Issues Steering Committee and the Research Policy Committee. As Dean of the College of Law and Business in Israel he led the overall school strategy and all the operational aspects of the school. As part of his involvement in professional organizations, he was the president of the Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) at INFORMS from 2007 to 2009 and in 2009 won the INFORMS Moving Spirit Service Award for his work. He was on the board of the POMS SCM and SO colleges and served as the president of the POMS SO college from 2014 to 2016. He also served as the POMS VP of Africa and the Middle East and member of the POMs Board, as well as the VP of Meetings for MSOM. During his time as a member of the POMs board he also spent five years as a member of the Finance committee of the board and his is currently the VP of Finance for POMs and a member of the board.
During his career, Raz was involved in organizing numerous conferences. These included the 2010 SCM MSOM conference in Israel, the 2011 POMS SC college conference in Reno, and the 2012 and 2015 POMs Sustainable Operations college conferences. He was also the chair of the student paper competition for the SC College in 2012 and the chair of the CLSC track in the 2014 POMS annual conference. In July 2017, he co-chaired the POMS International conference in Israel that brought almost 200 faculty from all over the world to Tel Aviv, Israel. In May 2023, he co-chaired the 2023 POMS Doctoral Consortium in Orlando that included almost 100 PhD students focused on current themes and trends in business higher education and providing students insights into the current academic job market. Finally, in June 2024, he organized and chaired the 4th Canadian Supply Chain Research Symposium that ran at Ivey, bringing together academic and industry leaders from Canada to discuss the top supply chain issues of our time.
Prior to joining Ivey, he was on the faculty of the Darden Graduate School of Business and the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) in Sydney. He also taught in several other schools such as Kellogg School of Management, Kelley School of Business, and IDC and the Technion in Israel.
